About Us
The Austin Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary (SAWA) is a local expression of a world-wide movement that seeks spiritual redemption and social rehabilitation of those it serves. We function as a fundraising group with a sincere desire to help those less fortunate. The ladies of the Auxiliary have a good time, work hard, and live by the mission of “Doing the Most Good”.
Our Mission
The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary (SAWA) is a volunteer educational and fundraising arm of The Salvation Army Greater Austin Area Command. The SAWA sponsors initiatives that enrich the lives of citizens in Travis and Williamson counties by meeting them at their point of need.
A Message from the President
My name is Linda Dryden and I am honored to be serving this year as the President of The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary of Austin. On behalf of SAWA, I extend a warm welcome and thank you for your interest in our work. We are a dedicated group of women serving others by providing hope and help in the heart of Texas.
Our focus is to be a volunteer, educational and fundraising resource for the Rathgeber Center which provides housing and case management for approximately 200 women, children and families. In Austin, 73% of those who come to Salvation Army for assistance are women and children. We are the extending arm of The Salvation Army's to the Rathgeber Center.
As an auxiliary, we offer a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. We work hard, but we also share a wonderful spirit of fellowship and purpose. The contributions of our members—whether through time, talent, or financial support—are essential to expanding the reach of The Salvation Army's programs. By joining our ranks, you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of meaningful projects, such as:
- Seasonal Events: Fall pumpkin carving parties, Christmas Angel Tree gifts and celebrations, Valentines, Easter Baskets, Vacation Bible School
- Fundraising events: Our major fundraising event is our Spring Tablescape Designs and Fashion Show- a show-stopping event to raise critical funds.
- Hands-on service: There are opportunities to be a part of the weekly delivery of flowers to the center to bring joy and beauty to the residents and many other ways to interact bringing blessing to both them and you.
The Salvation Army's work is driven by the Christian faith, seeking to bring social rehabilitation and spiritual redemption to those it serves without discrimination. SAWA is a vital part of this effort to help our community to function.
Whether you are a native Austinite or brand new resident, serving together provides not only crucial support for those receiving help, but also a deeply rewarding experience for each of our members.
